Universidad de Santiago’s interdisciplinary research team, led by Dr. Silvia Matiacevich from the Technological Faculty, is focused on developing an edible film that could increase the shelf life of fresh foods by 30%.

Patricio Flores, PhD in Biotechnology, and Yu-Wen Tang, student at the Master´s program in Technology Management- Major in Biotechnology, both from the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, were awarded a grant to develop a strategy for marketing an enzyme that has multiple benefits for diagnosing diseases.
En el Coloquio "Agua, ¿recurso renovable?", participaron distintos expositores, entre ellos el fundador del Advanced Innovation Center, Alfredo Zolezzi, quien considera “dramático” el avance de las tecnologías en contraste con la pobreza y escasez de recursos sanitarios que afecta a millones de personas. La solución, dice, es asegurar que la innovación llegue a quienes lo necesitan.
Among the different speakers that took part in the Colloquium “Water: a renewable resource?”, one of them, Alfredo Zolezzi, founder of the Advanced Innovation Center, considers that the contrast between technology progress and the poverty and shortage of sanitary resources affecting millions of people is “dramatic”. He says that the solution to this problem is to make sure that innovation reaches people who need it.
En ceremonia realizada este sábado en el Aula Magna, jóvenes de 14 colegios de alta vulnerabilidad social de la Región Metropolitana, recibieron sus respectivos diplomas, tras aprobar con éxito el Programa Propedéutico-Unesco “Nueva Esperanza, Mejor Futuro”, iniciativa de inclusión educativa que ofrece nuestra Casa de Estudios desde 2007, erigiéndose como pionera en este ámbito. Un total de 66 estudiantes fueron becados para su ingreso al Bachillerato de Ciencias y Humanidades.
In a ceremony held on December 21st, at the Aula Magna, young students from 14 low-income schools of the Metropolitan Region were awarded diplomas after successfully completing the Propedéutico-Unesco Program “New Hope, Better Future”. This educational inclusion initiative is offered since 2007 by our University, what makes it a pioneer in this field. A total of 66 students were granted scholarships to enter the Bachelor’s Program in Science and Humanities.

Un grupo conformado por 32 estudiantes de Arquitectura e Ingeniería de nuestra Universidad diseñan un hogar sustentable de 120 metros cuadrados totales, denominado “Casa Temperie”, que busca generar interacción y equilibrio entre medioambiente y hogar.
