While Chile maintains relatively low corruption levels compared to neighboring countries in the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index, growing public concern highlights critical warning signs for institutional transparency and trust.

Knowledge of the organizational and relational structures within corruption cases remains limited. Because corruption is categorized analytically rather than criminally, researchers face significant challenges in systematically studying cases and understanding how actors interact.

Chile is enduring one of the most severe mega-droughts in its history, with General Water Directorate (DGA) data recording over 15 years of continuous water scarcity. This unprecedented water crisis has drastically increased pressure on natural resources while raising critical concerns about the environmental footprint of major industrial sectors.

Amid rising global temperatures and accelerating carbon emissions, carbon recycling is emerging as a critical sustainability solution. Around the world, advanced (CO₂ ) capture and conversion technologies are converting greenhouse gases into valuable commercial feedstocks through more sustainable processes.

On Monday, April 14, the results of the Fondef project “Remote monitoring of wear in mining shovel GETs” were presented. The project was led by Dr. Sebastián Allende, a researcher at the Faculty of Science and the Center for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (Cedenna).

The initiative involved the companies Foremin and Dipper Parts, and was supported by the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research, Innovation and Creation (Vriic), through its Technology Management Department (DGT).

The first FIU Usach Workshop: Articulating Capacities in R&D&I, held on Thursday, July 17, saw a strong turnout from the research community at the University of Santiago, Chile. Hosted by the Vice-Rector's Office for Research, Innovation, and Creation, the event successfully brought together academics from diverse faculties and research centers. This initiative created an important interdisciplinary space, fostering the development of collaborative projects aimed at tackling Chile's strategic challenges

Leandro began his career at Usach in 2011, when he enrolled in the Telecommunications Technology program. From the beginning, he showed a strong interest in technology and entrepreneurship, which led him to become actively involved in university projects and to be part of the Student Center of his career. “I spent a lot of time in the networking lab, which motivated my link between technology and entrepreneurship,” he recalls. These experiences not only broadened his perspective but also allowed him to identify his passion for creating value through technology.

The Universidad de Santiago de Chile was recently awarded the Structural Research Fund for Universities (FIU), an initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation (CTCI), aimed at strengthening Research, Development and Innovation (R+D+i) capacity in higher education institutions in our country. This funding will allow Usach to develop and consolidate strategic lines of research during the next ten years.
